Yeah the last few series haven’t progressed as much, I guess mostly because they are all on the 28nm scale. An upgrade from 570 to 970 is noticeable but maybe not as much as one might expect at first. In any case, Nvidia is promising huge gains for their next generation. Don’t they always… but it’s pretty much confirmed that they are scaling from 28nm to 16nm, that will make a big difference. So I’d hold off a bit as well if you are already on one of the 28nm generations (i.e. 6xx or later). Here’s an interesting article on the topic (old but still relevant I believe):
