Our current wordpress theme, bbPress (Twenty Ten), wastes a lot of space. I want to experiment a bit with other themes that use space more effectively, but before I do that, if anyone has any suggestions on themes that should be tried out, please share here!
A good starting point is probably the list of bbPress compatible themes.
I’ve installed the customizr theme – looks much better IMO although it needs a bit more color. The default colour schemes look pretty ugly so I’ve stuck with black for now. How do you think this compares to the previous theme?
small font of forum posts and too big right panel. current font size is not comfortable for drunk people 😉
iam suggesting increasing font size same as the text on the right: “Enter your email address to subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email”
We must definitely accommodate drunk people too, I fully agree.
Yes the font size should be increased for the forum to match the font sizes elsewhere. I had to fix this also on the other theme so I know it’s pretty easy to achieve. I’ll look into the CSS details tomorrow.
Can you explain in more detail what you mean by “too big right panel”? Font too big, too wide, too long… ?
compared with the rest of page the right panel really looks bigger. its hard to explain. its like if you see someone with a big head. it doesnt match with proportions of the rest 😀 if the font size will be increased (+2px?) it wont look such big compared with the rest of page
I’ve increased the font size to match the rest of the website (very close guess!! it was 12px -> 15px, so +3px 🙂 ). I’ve also added some “slider” with our banner (… maybe this can be slightly improved) and a yacht picture.
i appreciate the changes! its much better now. good job mattie. can we do more than latest 5 updates on forum? latest 5 blog posts is enough but only 5 latest posts for forum is kinda low. ideal number is 7 atm. its sad we are the most active forum posters here. i hope others will increase their activities on forum soon too.
to be honest. i made some topics just for motivation (reason) to visit. and i still hope they will do and join the discussions
Absolutely 83 – I’m totally with nop here. 🙂 If we have a small but hard core to keep the momentum going, eventually the ball will start rolling, I’m sure of it. So yes, by all means, just keep flooding the forums!! 😛
I’ve moved the sidebar to the left (just to try it out); I now think it looks better to have the “activity” stuff there (left is where the human eye looks first, at least in western culture) but let me know your impressions particularly if you preferred it the other way around. I’ve also increased the topics to 7. I briefly also tried 10 but that’s indeed too much – good judgment there 83, as always thanks for the feedback & superb suggestions.
